Description
Acts on dopamine neurons, NMDA receptors, and viral M2 proteins to provide antiparkinsonian and antiviral therapeutic effects.
Indications
Treatment of parkinsonism, drug-induced extrapyramidal reactions, and prophylaxis/treatment of influenza A virus.

Pharmacology
Enhances dopamine release, inhibits reuptake, blocks NMDA receptors, and prevents viral nucleic acid release.
Mechanism of action
Pre-synaptic dopamine release enhancement and non-competitive antagonism of NMDA receptors.
Dosage
Adults: 100 mg twice daily for Parkinson's/extrapyramidal reactions. Influenza A: 200 mg/day or 100 mg twice daily.
Administration
Orally with or without food.
Missed dose
Take as soon as remembered.
Side effects
Nausea, dizziness, insomnia, ankle edema, livedo reticularis, anxiety, headache, dry mouth, and lethargy.
Precautions & warnings
Do not discontinue abruptly in Parkinson's patients to avoid parkinsonian crisis or delirium.
Contraindications
Known hypersensitivity to active substance or excipients.
Drug interactions
Concurrent anticholinergic or levodopa use may increase confusion and atropine-like side effects.
Food interactions
Can be taken with or without food.
Use in pregnancy
Pregnancy Category C. Use if potential benefits outweigh risks.
Pregnancy Category: C — always consult a doctor before taking during pregnancy.
Use in lactation
Excreted in breast milk in low concentrations; use with caution.
Pediatric use
Aged 1-9 years: 4.4-8.8 mg/kg/day; 9-12 years: 100 mg twice daily for influenza.
Geriatric use
Elderly over 65 years: 100 mg daily.
Renal / hepatic impairment
Reduce dose in renal impairment; use with caution in hepatic impairment.
Overdose effects
May cause cardiac arrhythmias, seizures, and CNS toxicity. Supportive care and gastric lavage required.

Store in a cool & dry place, protected from light, out of reach of children.
