Description
Bilastine is an antihistamine medication. It is used in the treatment of allergy symptoms such as such as itching, swelling and rashes. Bilastine can be taken one hour before or two hours after food, but take it at the same time to get the most benefit. It should be taken as your doctor's advice. The dose and how often you take it depends on what you are taking it for. Your doctor will decide how much you need to improve your symptoms. Remember dosage is decided on the basis of the type of medicine (tablet or syrup ), age and present medical condition of the person. You should take this medicine for as long as it is prescribed for you. If you do not observe any improvement in the symptoms, consult with the doctor. The most common side effects of this medicine include headache and drowsiness. If these bother you or appear serious, let your doctor know. There may be ways of reducing or preventing them. Generally, it is advised to drink plenty of fluids while on treatment with this medicine. To overcome dizziness, avoid driving or attention-seeking activities until you know how the medicine affects you. Before taking this medicine, let your doctor know if you are pregnant, or breastfeeding. Your doctor should also know about all other medicines you are taking as many of these may make this medicine less effective or change the way it works. You must avoid fruit juice before taking the medicine. Bilastine is an antiallergic medication. It treats allergy symptoms such as such as itching, swelling, and rashes by blocking the effects of a chemical messenger (histamine) in the body.

Mechanism of action
Bilastine is a selective histamine H1 receptor antagonist Label. During allergic response mast cells undergo degranulation which releases histamine and other subastances. By binding to and preventing activation of the H1 receptor, bilastine reduces the development of allergic symptoms due to the release of histamine from mast cells.
Dosage
Adult Dose: The usual dose for adults is one tablet (20 mg) daily. Child Dose: The usual dose for children aged over 12 years, is one tablet (20 mg) daily.
Administration
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Bilastine is to be taken empty stomach.

Precautions & warnings
[CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR] It is not known whether Bilastine alters the ability to drive. Do not drive if you experience any symptoms that affect your ability to concentrate and react. Your doctor has prescribed Bilastine to help relieve allergy symptoms such as itching, swelling, and rashes. As compared to other similar medications, it is much less likely to make you feel sleepy. Be cautious while driving or doing anything that requires concentration as it can cause dizziness and sleepiness. Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication as it may cause increased sleepiness. Stop taking Bilastine at least three days before taking an allergy test as it can affect the test results.
