In patients with history of renal stones, urinary calcium excretion should be measured. Monitor serum and urinary calcium and kidney function during long-term treatment. Allowances should be made for calcium and vitamin D supplements from other sources.
Overdose effects
The most serious consequence of acute or chronic overdose is hypercalcemia due to vitamin D toxicity. Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, polyuria, constipation. Chronic overdoses can lead to vascular and organ calcification. Treatment: stop all calcium and vitamin D intake and rehydrate.
