Pharmacology

Calcium Pantothenate is the calcium salt of pantothenic acid which helps supplement calcium in the body. It neutralizes gastric acid in peptic ulcer disease and provides supplementary dietary calcium by reducing serum phosphate concentration, ensuring calcium phosphate deposition in bone and soft tissue.

Dosage

Adults: Slow IV or deep IM injection as required, or as directed by a physician.

Note: This injection should be administered by a healthcare professional only. Patient should not self-administer. Administer slowly (avoid rapid administration).

Side effects

Common side effects: Mild gastrointestinal disturbances, bradycardia, arrhythmia, irritation after IV injection.

Use in pregnancy

May be unsafe during pregnancy (Category C). Animal reproduction studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus; no controlled human studies available. Potential benefits may warrant use in pregnant women despite potential risks.

Pregnancy Category: C — always consult a doctor before taking during pregnancy.

Precautions & warnings
  • Renal impairment, sarcoidosis, and concurrent administration of thiazide diuretics may increase the risk of hypercalcemia; caution required.
  • Caution during pregnancy (Category C).
Overdose effects

Overdose may cause hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria. Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, constipation, confusion. Consult your doctor immediately if overdose is suspected.
