Dosage

Adolescents and adults: 1 tablet once or twice daily (effervescent or film-coated) or as directed by a physician.

Children: 1 tablet once daily.

Renal stones history: Dose should be reduced or adjusted.

Note: Allowances should be made for calcium and vitamin D3 supplements from other sources.

Side effects

Common (less serious): Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, constipation, flatulence, bloating, itching, redness/burning of the skin.

Rare: Hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria.

Very rare: Serious allergic reaction (swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and throat).

Precautions & warnings
  • Patients with mild to moderate renal failure or mild hypercalciuria should be supervised carefully.
  • Periodic checks of plasma calcium levels and urinary calcium excretion should be made.
  • In patients with a history of renal stones, urinary calcium excretion should be measured to exclude hypercalciuria.
  • With long-term treatment, monitor serum and urinary calcium levels and kidney function; reduce or stop treatment temporarily if urinary calcium exceeds 7.5 mmol/24 hours.
