At a glance

Aspirin + Clopidogrel is a combination antiplatelet medicine used to prevent heart attack and stroke by reducing the formation of harmful blood clots in blood vessels.

Indications
  • Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) - non-ST-elevation ACS (UA/NSTEMI) and ST-elevation ACS (STEMI)
  • Recent Myocardial Infarction (MI)
  • Recent Stroke
  • Established Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD)
Pharmacology

Clopidogrel is a prodrug. It is converted to an active metabolite that irreversibly binds to the P2Y12 class of ADP receptors on platelets, inhibiting platelet activation and aggregation. At 75 mg daily, inhibition reaches steady state between Day 3 and Day 7.

Aspirin irreversibly inhibits platelet cyclooxygenase, reducing thromboxane A2 production - a powerful inducer of platelet aggregation and vasoconstriction.

This combination inhibits platelet aggregation through two distinct pathways, providing enhanced antithrombotic effect.
