Econazole Nitrate (Vaginal prep) is an imidazole antifungal used for the treatment of vaginal thrush, vulvo-vaginal candidiasis and fungal infection of vagina. It modifies the permeability of fungal cell wall membrane.
Indications
- Vaginal thrush
- Vulvo-vaginal candidiasis
- Fungal infection of vagina
Dosage
Vaginal candidiasis (VT): 150 mg/day at bedtime for 3 consecutive nights.
Vaginal infection (Cream): Applied with applicator par vaginally once or twice daily.
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Vulvar/vaginal burning
- Erythema (redness)
- Itching
Precautions & warnings
- Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
- May damage latex contraceptives (condoms, diaphragms), so use alternative contraception during treatment.
- Can be used during pregnancy but consult your doctor.
- Can be used during lactation but caution is required.
