Doxophylline is used to treat and prevent symptoms of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD). It relaxes the muscles of the air passages, widening it and making it easier to breathe.

Indications
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Asthma
Dosage

Adult Dose: Tablet: 400 mg 1-3 times daily; SR tablet: 400 mg once daily. Syrup: 10 ml 2-3 times daily.

Child Dose: >12 years: 200 mg 2-3 times daily or 10 ml syrup; <12 years: 6 mg/kg/dose twice daily (up to 9 mg/kg/dose).

  • Upset stomach
  • Vomiting
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Restlessness
Precautions & warnings
  • Used for prevention and treatment of asthma and COPD.
  • Take at the same time each day, preferably in the evening after food.
  • Does not work immediately; keep a rescue inhaler with you.
  • Regular blood tests may be needed to monitor potassium levels and drug levels.
