Gadoteric Acid is a contrast agent used in MRI to detect abnormalities in the brain and spine.

Indications
  • MRI in brain (intracranial), spine and associated tissues
  • Detection of areas with disruption of the blood brain barrier (BBB)
  • Detection of abnormal vascularity
Dosage

Adult and Pediatric Dose (including term neonates):

  • Recommended dose: 0.2 mL/kg (0.1 mmol/kg) body weight
  • Administer as intravenous bolus injection (manually or by power injector)
  • Flow rate for adults: approximately 2 mL/second
  • Flow rate for pediatric patients: 1-2 mL/second
  • May be followed by normal saline flush to ensure complete injection
  • Contrast MRI can begin immediately following injection

Side effects

Common Side Effects (in clinical studies):

  • Nausea
  • Headache
  • Injection site pain
  • Injection site coldness
  • Burning sensation

Serious Side Effects: Nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF), anaphylactoid/anaphylactic reactions.

Precautions & warnings

Precautions:

  • Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NSF) has occurred in patients with impaired elimination of GBCAs.
  • Higher than recommended dosing or repeat dosing appear to increase the risk.
  • Hypersensitivity: Anaphylactoid/anaphylactic reactions may occur - monitor patients closely.
  • Avoid use in severe kidney disease (GFR <30 mL/min/1.73m²).
