Ganciclovir is an antiviral medicine used for the treatment of acute herpetic keratitis.
Indications
- Acute herpetic keratitis (dendritic ulcers)
Dosage
Adult Dose:
- Ganciclovir eye gel 0.15%: 1 drop in the affected eye 5 times per day (approximately every 3 hours while awake) until the corneal ulcer heals.
- Then 1 drop 3 times per day for 7 days.

Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Blurred vision - 60%
- Eye irritation - 20%
- Punctate keratitis - 5%
- Conjunctival hyperemia - 5%
Precautions & warnings
Precautions:
- For ophthalmic use only.
- Do not wear contact lenses if you have signs of herpetic keratitis or during therapy.
- It may cause short term blurring of vision - be cautious while driving.
