L-Ornithine + L-Aspartate is used in the treatment of liver disease. It protects the liver from harmful chemical substances and improves liver function. It is a combination of two amino acids that helps convert toxic ammonia into non-toxic urea.
Indications
- Hepatic encephalopathy
- Acute liver failure
- Hyperammonemia due to acute and chronic hepatitis
- Fatty liver
- Alcoholic liver damage
- Liver cirrhosis
- Adjunct to hepatotoxic drugs
- Post-hepatitis convalescence
Dosage
Sachet (Oral):
- 1-2 sachets granules 3 times daily
- Dissolve in a glass of water or juice and take during or after meals
Injection (Infusion Concentrate):
- Up to 20 g (4 ampoules) daily
- In pre-coma or coma: up to 8 ampoules within 24 hours (depending on severity)
Side effects
Rare Side Effects:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Abdominal pain
- Bloating
- Diarrhea
These side effects are usually transient and do not require drug withdrawal.
Precautions & warnings
- Monitor serum and urinary urea levels at regular intervals
- May affect driving ability; caution is advised
- Avoid use during pregnancy and lactation
