Ketoprofen is a pain relieving and anti-inflammatory medicine used for various pain conditions of muscles, bones and joints. It is effective for soft tissue injuries, muscle strains and sprains.
Indications
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Osteoarthritis (degenerative joint diseases)
- Musculoskeletal disorders such as tendinitis, sprain
- Dental pain, headache and primary dysmenorrhea
Dosage
Adult Dose (Anti-inflammatory):
- Starting dose: 150-300 mg daily in 3 divided doses
- Maintenance dose: Usually 100-200 mg daily
- Maximum daily dose: 300 mg
Pain and Dysmenorrhea Management:
- 25-50 mg every 6-8 hours as needed
- Maximum daily dose: 300 mg
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Dyspepsia
- Nausea
- Abdominal pain
- Vomiting
Uncommon Side Effects:
- Constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, gastritis
- Headache, dizziness, somnolence
Precautions & warnings
- Use with caution in patients with history of peptic ulcer or bleeding
- Caution in patients with heart failure, cirrhosis or nephrosis
- Caution in patients with hypertension or heart problems
- Elderly patients should start with reduced dosage
- Regular monitoring required for liver or kidney problems
- Not recommended for pregnant women or those trying to conceive
