Topical: to reduce androgenetic hair loss and promote regrowth in men and women. The oral form is used only under specialist care for severe hypertension.

Potassium-channel opener / vasodilator

Dilates blood vessels and, on the scalp, increases follicular blood flow and prolongs the growth (anagen) phase of hair.

Topical 2%/5% solution: apply 1 mL to the affected dry scalp twice daily. Results take 3–6 months; benefit is lost if stopped.

Scalp only; wash hands after use and do not wet hair for 4 hours. Avoid eyes and broken skin.

Apply when remembered; do not apply extra.

Scalp itching/irritation, temporary increased shedding at the start, unwanted facial hair.

Caution in heart disease; do not apply to the face or other areas.

Hypersensitivity to minoxidil; broken or inflamed skin.

Systemic absorption is low with topical use; caution with other topical agents.

Not applicable (topical).

Avoid topical use in pregnancy (Category C).

Pregnancy Category: C — always consult a doctor before taking during pregnancy.

Avoid during breastfeeding.

If swallowed: low blood pressure, fast heartbeat — seek emergency care.

Store below 30°C; keep away from fire.
