Ketotifen Eye Prep is used for the treatment and prevention of signs and symptoms of seasonal allergic conjunctivitis, including ocular itching, redness, and inflammation.
Indications

Pharmacology
Ketotifen is a potent anti-allergic substance that acts as a non-competitive histamine (H1) receptor blocker. It inhibits the release of mediators from cells responsible for type I allergic reactions, stabilizes mast cells, decreases chemotaxis, and inhibits eosinophil activation and degranulation.
Dosage
Adult and Children over 3 years:
- Instill 1 drop into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s) twice daily
- Or as directed by the physician
Children below 3 years: Not recommended.
Side effects
Local Side Effects:
- Ocular burning or stinging
- Punctate corneal epithelial erosion
- Dry eyes
- Eyelid disorder
- Photophobia
- Keratitis
- Lacrimation
Systemic Side Effects (very rare):
- Headache
- Urticaria
- Dry mouth
- Allergic reaction
Use in pregnancy
Use in Pregnancy: No adequate controlled studies; systemic absorption after ocular administration is very low. Use with caution.
Precautions & warnings
- Do not use while wearing contact lenses
- Wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting lenses
- Contains benzalkonium chloride as a preservative which may deposit in soft contact lenses
- Use with caution during pregnancy
Overdose effects
Overdose symptoms may be similar to side effects.
Storage conditions
Close the bottle immediately after use; do not use after 4 weeks of opening; store in a cool and dry place away from light; keep out of reach of children.
