Bimatoprost 0.03% + Timolol 0.5% Eye Prep is a combination medicine used in the treatment of ocular hypertension and glaucoma. It works by decreasing the production of aqueous humour (fluid in the eye), thereby lowering increased eye pressure.
Indications
- Open-angle glaucoma
- Ocular hypertension
- Reduction of intraocular pressure in patients insufficiently responsive to monotherapy
Dosage
Adults: One drop in the affected eye(s) once daily.
Children: Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established.
Elderly: No overall differences in safety or effectiveness have been observed between elderly and other adult patients.
Side effects
Common (in clinical trials):
Ocular hyperemia (approximately 26% of patients), decreased visual acuity, eye discomfort, foreign body sensation, eye pain, pruritus (itching), stinging sensation, burning sensation.
Other:
Darkening of eyelashes (temporary), change in iris color (brown pigmentation with long-term use), eye redness.
Precautions & warnings
- May cause short-term blurring of vision after use; do not drive or use machinery until vision is clear.
- Apply pressure on the corner of the eye (close to the nose) for about 1 minute immediately after instilling the drop.
- Use within 4 weeks of opening the bottle.
- May cause eyelashes to grow longer, darker, and thicker (not harmful).
- May cause brown pigmentation of the iris with long-term use (permanent but not harmful).
- Caution in patients with cardiovascular disease or pulmonary disorders (due to systemic absorption of timolol).
