Medroxyprogesterone Acetate is a progestin hormone used for irregular periods, abnormal uterine bleeding, and amenorrhea. It replaces natural progesterone to regulate the uterine lining.
Indications
- Abnormal uterine bleeding
- Amenorrhea (secondary)
- Reduction of endometrial hyperplasia (postmenopausal women)
- Endometriosis
- Contraception (injection)
Dosage
Oral (Adult):
- Uterine bleeding: 5-10 mg/day for 5-10 days (start on day 16 or 21 of cycle); withdrawal bleeding within 3-7 days
- Secondary amenorrhea: 5-10 mg/day for 5-10 days
- Endometrial hyperplasia reduction: 5 or 10 mg/day for 12-14 days per month
- Endometriosis: 10 mg 3 times daily for 90 days
Intramuscular (Contraception): 150 mg every 3 months

Precautions & warnings
- Caution when driving or doing activities requiring concentration (may cause drowsiness and dizziness)
- Discontinue and inform doctor if severe headache, leg pain/swelling, breathing pain, vision/hearing changes, or yellowing of skin/eyes occur
- Do not use during pregnancy
- Use non-hormonal contraception during treatment
