Description

Bambuterol Hydrochloride is used to relieve symptoms of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) such as coughing, wheezing and breathlessness. It helps in relaxing the muscles of the air passages, thus widening it and making it easier to breathe. You can take Bambuterol Hydrochloride with or without food. The dose will depend on your condition and how your respond to the medicine. Try to take it at the same time each day. It is important to keep taking this medicine until your doctor tells you not to. Use this medicine regularly to get the most benefit from it even if you feel well. Bambuterol Hydrochloride is generally safe and effective but some common side effects include headache. fast heart rate, tremor, muscle cramp and insomnia. These side effects are not often dangerous and they should gradually improve as your body gets used to this medicine. There are other, rarer, side effects and you should call your doctor straight away if you get chest pain, a very bad headache or very bad dizziness. Before using Bambuterol Hydrochloridel, you should tell your doctor if you have high blood pressure, an overactive thyroid gland, a history of heart problems, diabetes or low levels of potassium in your blood to make sure it is safe. Also make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before taking this medicine. Because this medicine can make you feel dizzy or shaky, do not drive, cycle or use tools or machinery until you feel better. You should not smoke as it causes damage to your lungs and will make your condition worse. Bambuterol Hydrochloride is a bronchodilator. It works by relaxing the muscles in the airways and widens airways. This makes breathing easier.

Mechanism of action

Bambuterol HCl is a prodrug of terbutaline. It relaxes bronchial smooth muscle by selectively acting on ?2-receptors.

Dosage

Adult Dose: Adult: PO 10-20 mg/day at bedtime. Hepatic impairment: Severe: Not recommended. Renal Dose: Renal impairment: CrCl (ml/min) <50 Initial dose should be halved.

Administration

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Bambuterol Hydrochloride may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Precautions & warnings

[CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR] It is not known whether Bambuterol Hydrochloride alters the ability to drive. Do not drive if you experience any symptoms that affect your ability to concentrate and react. Take bambuterol tablets shortly before bedtime. Caution should be exercised in patients with history of diabetes, thyroid disease, high blood pressure, heart disease, problems of liver or kidneys, family history of glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye). You should continue taking the medication after the start of treatment with bambuterol, even if the asthma symptoms diminish. If you have moderate to severely impaired renal function (GFR < 50 ml/min), it is recommended that the starting dose of Bambuterol should be halved. If you have severe asthma, you should undergo regular blood tests to monitor the amount of potassium in your blood. If you are suffering from diabetes, you may need additional medications for blood glucose control, due to the hypoglycemic effect exerted by bambuterol. Consult your doctor as soon as possible if this medicine doesn't relieve wheezing or chest tightness as well as usual, or for as long as usual, or if you need to use it more often than usual. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine.Caution is recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy.

Contraindications

Severe hepatic impairment; cirrhosis.

Drug interactions

Risk of hypokalaemia increased by co-admin of corticosteroids, diuretics or xanthines. Prolong the action of drugs e.g. suxamethonium.

Food interactions

Use in pregnancy
