Indications
Indicated for relieving chronic heartburn and GERD symptoms, healing and maintaining healing of erosive esophagitis, H. pylori eradication in combination therapy, Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome, acid-related dyspepsia, and peptic ulcers.
Dosage
Oral: Erosive Esophagitis healing 20-40 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks; maintenance 20 mg once daily. GERD 20 mg once daily. H. pylori eradication: 40 mg once daily for 10 days. Zollinger-Ellison: 20-80 mg daily. IV injection/infusion: 10 mg to 80 mg based on condition and age.
Side effects
Frequently reported adverse events include headache, diarrhea, nausea, flatulence, abdominal pain, constipation, and dry mouth. Safety profile remains consistent during long-term treatment up to 12 months.
Precautions & warnings
Symptomatic response does not preclude gastric malignancy. Long-term use may be associated with bone fractures and mineral deficiencies (e.g., magnesium). Use cautiously in severe hepatic impairment.
