Difluprednate Eye Prep is a topical steroid used for the treatment of post-operative eye pain and inflammation.
Indications
- Post-operative eye pain and inflammation
- Uveitis
- Pseudophakic cystoid macular edema (CME)
- Blepharitis and corneal inflammation
Dosage
Post-operative inflammation & pain: 1 drop 4 times daily for 2 weeks starting 24 hours post-op; then 2 times daily for 1 week; then taper based on response.
Uveitis: 1 drop 4 times daily for 14 days; then taper as clinically indicated.
Blepharitis: 1 drop 2 times daily for 1 week, then once daily for 1 week.
Pseudophakic CME: 1 drop 2 times daily.
Side effects
Common: Eye irritation, burning sensation, watery eyes, corneal edema, ciliary and conjunctival hyperemia, eye pain, photophobia, posterior capsule opacification, anterior chamber cells, anterior chamber flare, conjunctival edema, blepharitis.
Serious: Elevated intraocular pressure (glaucoma), optic nerve damage, posterior subcapsular cataract formation, secondary ocular infection, corneal perforation.
Precautions & warnings
Prolonged use may result in glaucoma and cataract formation; monitor IOP if used for 10 days or longer. Caution in patients with history of herpes simplex. Do not touch dropper tip to any surface.
