Mumps, Rubella, Measles (Live Attenuated) Vaccine is a live attenuated virus vaccine that provides active immunity against measles, mumps and rubella infections. It is indicated for both children and adults.
Indications
- Active immunization against infection by measles, mumps and rubella
- Routine vaccination of children (12-15 months and 4-6 years)
- Vaccination of adults (19-49 years)
- Rubella immunization in non-pregnant women
- International travelers and healthcare workers
Dosage
Pediatric Dose (IM/SC):
- 12-15 months: 0.5 mL SC (1st dose)
- 4-6 years: 0.5 mL SC (2nd dose)
- Minimum time between 1st and 2nd dose: 4 weeks
Adult Dose (IM/SC):
- 19-49 years: 0.5 mL SC; second dose may be given 28 days apart
- >50 years: 0.5 mL SC (1 dose only)
Immunization in Pregnancy: Give MMR vaccine after pregnancy completion; avoid pregnancy for 28 days after vaccination
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Fever
- Headache
- Rash
- Pain at injection site
- Lymphadenopathy
- Myalgia
- Malaise, irritability
Rare: Ataxia, Thrombocytopenia, Optic neuritis, Encephalitis, Guillain-Barre syndrome, Seizures, Parotitis, Bronchospasm, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, Nerve deafness
Precautions & warnings
- Caution in patients with history of cerebral injury or seizures
- Caution in patients with thrombocytopenia and those who develop thrombocytopenia after 1st dose
- Tuberculosis treatment should be started before vaccine use in active TB patients
- Vaccination may be deferred in moderate or severe acute illness
- Avoid pregnancy for 28 days after vaccination
