At a glance

Pirfenidone is an antifibrotic medication used for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). It reduces fibrosis (scarring) and swelling in the lungs, making breathing easier.

In animal models, it inhibits inflammatory cell influx and bleomycin-induced pulmonary vascular permeability.
