Oxytetracycline 0.5% + Polymixin B Sulphate E/E prep is used for bacterial eye and ear infections. Oxytetracycline inhibits bacterial protein synthesis and polymyxin B causes bacterial membrane leakage.

Indications
  • Eye infections (conjunctivitis, keratitis, corneal ulcer)
  • Ear infections
Dosage

Adult and Pediatric Dose:

  • Eye ointment: Apply every 2 hours in acute infection; usually 2-4 times daily
  • Ear ointment: Small amount in external auditory meatus 2-4 times daily
Side effects

Side Effects:

  • Local irritation
  • Ocular or oto toxicity (rare)
Precautions & warnings
  • Avoid prolonged use
  • Caution in perforated ear drum
