Propafenone Hydrochloride is a class 1C antiarrhythmic drug used for the treatment of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation/flutter, paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, and documented ventricular arrhythmias.

Indications
  • Paroxysmal atrial fibrillation/flutter (PAF)
  • Paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT)
  • Documented ventricular arrhythmias
Dosage

Adult Dose (Oral):

  • Initial dose: 150 mg three times daily (450 mg/day)
  • May increase at 3-4 day intervals to 225 mg three times daily (675 mg/day); if needed, to 300 mg three times daily (900 mg/day)
  • Max dose: 900 mg/day
  • Patients <70 kg: Dose reduction recommended
  • Elderly and hepatic impairment: Dose reduction recommended

Precautions & warnings
  • May affect driving ability; do not drive if tired, dizzy, or have blurred vision
  • Do not stop abruptly
  • Monitor liver function
  • Monitor potassium and sodium levels
