Sertaconazole Topical is an imidazole antifungal cream used for the treatment of interdigital tinea pedis (athlete's foot) and other topical fungal infections. It kills fungi by inhibiting ergosterol synthesis in the fungal cell membrane.
Indications
- Interdigital tinea pedis (athlete's foot) caused by Trichophyton rubrum, T. mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum
- Other topical fungal infections (≥12 years, immunocompetent)
Dosage
Adult Dose (Topical):
- Tinea pedis: Apply 2% cream twice daily to affected area and surrounding healthy skin for up to 4 weeks
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Contact dermatitis
- Dry skin
- Burning skin
- Application site tenderness
- Erythema, pruritus, vesiculation, desquamation, hyperpigmentation
Precautions & warnings
- Safety and efficacy not established in children <12 years
- Discontinue treatment if irritation develops
- Cross-reactivity may occur with azole antifungals
- Inform doctor if infection does not clear within 4 weeks
