Eggshell Calcium + Vitamin D3 is a combination supplement used for the treatment of bone loss (osteoporosis), weak bones (osteomalacia, osteopenia), rickets and hypoparathyroidism.
Indications
- Osteoporosis (bone loss)
- Osteomalacia (weak bones)
- Osteopenia
- Rickets
- Hypoparathyroidism (decreased parathyroid gland activity)
- Latent tetany
Dosage
Adult Dose: One tablet in the morning and one tablet at night, or as directed by the physician.
Child Dose: As directed by the physician.
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- GI irritation (generally orally administered calcium carbonate may be irritating)
- Constipation (eggshell calcium is safe without causing GI discomfort or constipation)
Rare Side Effects:
- Kidney stones
- Hypercalcemia
- Alkalosis
- Loss of appetite
Precautions & warnings
- Discontinue if hypercalcemia occurs.
- Patients with history of kidney stones should increase fluid intake.
- Use during pregnancy and lactation as directed by physician.
