Indications
Infections caused by susceptible gram-negative bacteria — eye infections (drops), respiratory, urinary and serious systemic infections (injection).
Dosage
Eye drops: 1–2 drops in the affected eye every 4 hours. Injection: determined by the physician based on body weight and renal function (typically 3–5 mg/kg/day in divided doses).
Side effects
Eye stinging/redness with drops. Systemic use may cause kidney damage and hearing problems (ototoxicity).
Precautions & warnings
Caution in renal disease, elderly and dehydration; monitor serum levels with prolonged use.
