Caffeine + Ergotamine Tartrate is a combination medicine used in the treatment of acute migraine attacks. Ergotamine constricts blood vessels in the head, and caffeine enhances its absorption, helping to relieve migraine pain.
Indications
- Migraine
- Vascular headache
Dosage
Adults and children above 12 years:
Take 1-2 tablets at the first sign of a migraine attack.
If necessary, take 1-2 tablets every 30-60 minutes.
Maximum dose: No more than 4-6 tablets per day; no more than 8-10 tablets per week.
Note: Not for chronic daily use. Do not exceed the recommended dosage for migraine treatment.
Side effects
Common side effects: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle pain, increased heart rate, restlessness.
Serious side effects: Numbness or tingling in fingers and toes, muscle pain in arms and legs, weakness in legs, chest pain, changes in heart rate, swelling or itching.
Long-term use: Retroperitoneal fibrosis, pleuropulmonary fibrosis, fibrotic thickening of heart valves (rare).
Signs of ergotism: Intense arterial vasoconstriction, peripheral vascular ischemia, numbness, coldness, pallor of digits (may lead to gangrene).
Precautions & warnings
- Do not exceed recommended dosage; not for chronic daily use.
- Rebound headache may occur upon discontinuation (rare).
- Do not use during pregnancy and lactation.
- Caution in patients with liver and kidney disease.
- Avoid in peripheral vascular disease, coronary heart disease, hypertension, and sepsis.
