Vortioxetine is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults.
Indications
- Major depressive disorder (MDD)
Dosage
Adult Dose (Oral):
- Starting dose: 10 mg once daily, without regard to meals
- Increase to 20 mg/day, as tolerated
- Efficacy and safety of doses above 20 mg/day have not been evaluated
- A dose decrease down to 5 mg/day may be considered for patients who do not tolerate higher doses
- For elderly patients (>65 years), use the lowest effective dose of 5 mg/day as the starting dose
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Hypersensitivity
- Clinical worsening and suicide risk
- Serotonin syndrome
- Abnormal bleeding
- Activation of Mania/Hypomania
- Angle closure Glaucoma
- Hyponatremia
Precautions & warnings
- Monitor appropriately for clinical worsening, suicidality, and unusual changes in behavior, especially during the initial few months or at times of dose changes
- Increased risk of serotonin syndrome with serotonergic drugs
- Increased risk of bleeding with Aspirin, NSAIDs, Warfarin, and other Anticoagulants
- Use cautiously in patients with a history or family history of bipolar disorder, mania, or hypomania
