At a glance

Hydrochlorothiazide + Losartan Potassium combination is used for the treatment of hypertension and to reduce the risk of stroke in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy.

Indications
  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Reduction of stroke risk in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy
Pharmacology

Losartan and its active metabolite selectively block the AT1 receptor of angiotensin II, inhibiting vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion. Hydrochlorothiazide inhibits sodium and chloride reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubule, increasing sodium and chloride excretion, which reduces plasma volume and activates the renin-aldosterone system.
