Omalizumab is a monoclonal antibodies. It is used in the treatment of moderate to severe asthma in both adults and children. It is also used in the treatment of chronic idiopathic urticaria. Omalizumab is given as an injection under the supervision of a doctor. The first three dose of medicine is given by the doctor. Your doctor will explain to you the best way to inject the medicine so that you can inject your medicine at home. Your doctor will decide how much you need to improve your symptoms. You should take this medicine for as long as it is prescribed for you even if you feel better. The most common side effects of this medicine include reactions at the injection site including pain, swelling, itching and redness and headache. If these bother you or appear serious, let your doctor know. There may be ways of reducing or preventing them. Remember, it does not prevent you from a sudden attack, hence always carry your emergency inhaler with you. Before taking this medicine if you have liver or kidney disease, or if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy. Your doctor should also know about all other medicines you are taking as many of these may make this medicine less effective or change the way it works. In general, alcohol is not recommended while on treatment with this medicine. Common: • Headache • Fever • Application site reactions (burning, irritation, itching and redness)

[SAFE] Omalizumab does not usually affect your ability to drive.

[SAFE] Consuming alcohol with Omalizumab does not cause any harmful side effects.

[SAFE IF PRESCRIBED] Omalizumab is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.

[CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR] Omalizumab is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.

[SAFE IF PRESCRIBED] Omalizumab is probably safe to use in patients with kidney disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Omalizumab may not be needed in these patients.
