Description
Beclomethasone Dipropionate Nasal prep is a corticosteroid used to manage nasal allergy and inflammatory conditions. It helps control symptoms of sinusitis, hay fever, allergic and non-allergic rhinitis, nasal polyps (post-surgical prophylaxis), and vasomotor rhinitis.
Beclomethasone controls the rate of protein synthesis, depresses the migration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes and fibroblasts, reverses capillary permeability, and stabilizes lysosomes at the cellular level, reducing nasal inflammation and swelling.
Common side effects include nasopharyngeal irritation, headache, nausea, lightheadedness, sneezing attacks, nasal congestion, nosebleeds, and rhinorrhea.

Pharmacology
Beclomethasone controls the rate of protein synthesis, depresses the migration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes and fibroblasts, reverses capillary permeability, and stabilizes lysosomes at the cellular level to prevent or control inflammation.
Mechanism of action
Beclomethasone Dipropionate reduces inflammatory cells and mediators in the nasal mucosa, decreasing airway inflammation and hyperreactivity, helping control allergic symptoms.
Dosage
Adults: 1-2 inhalations in each nostril twice daily.
Children (12 years and older): 1-2 inhalations in each nostril twice daily.
Children (6-12 years): Start with 1 inhalation in each nostril twice daily; patients with more severe symptoms may use 2 inhalations in each nostril.
Children (<6 years): Safety and efficacy not established.
Administration
Shake well before each use. Before first use, prime pump by 6 actuations into the air. If not used for 7 days, reprime until a fine spray appears. Tilt head slightly forward when spraying into the nostrils.
Missed dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Precautions & warnings
- Nasal passage infections and paranasal sinuses should be appropriately treated
- Caution when transferring from systemic steroids if adrenal function is impaired
- Systemic effects may occur at high doses used for prolonged periods
- Growth retardation has been reported in children
- Higher than recommended doses may cause clinically significant adrenal suppression
- Caution during pregnancy and lactation
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to beclomethasone dipropionate or any component
Drug interactions
No significant drug interactions are known. Avoid use with other nasal corticosteroids.
Food interactions

Use in pregnancy

Pediatric use

Geriatric use
No dose adjustment needed for elderly patients, but caution is advised.
Renal / hepatic impairment
Systemic absorption with nasal application is minimal, but caution is advised in severe renal or hepatic impairment.
Overdose effects
Overuse may cause systemic corticosteroid effects. Consult a doctor if symptoms occur.
Storage conditions
Store below 30°C, in a dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children.
