Bepotastine Besilate

Bepotastine Besilate is a topical antihistamine ophthalmic solution used for the treatment of itching associated with signs and symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis. It is a direct H1-receptor antagonist and an inhibitor of the release of histamine from mast cells.

The recommended dosage is 1 drop in the affected eye(s) twice daily. Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients below the age of 2 have not been established.

Common side effects include headache, mild eye irritation, and unusual or unpleasant taste in the mouth.

Bepotastine is a topically active, direct H1-receptor antagonist and an inhibitor of the release of histamine from mast cells. It reduces itching, redness, and swelling in allergic conjunctivitis by blocking histamine effects.

Bepotastine Besilate is a direct H1-receptor antagonist that reduces allergy symptoms by blocking histamine receptors and inhibiting the release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators from mast cells.

Adults: 1 drop in the affected eye(s) twice daily.

Children (2 years and older): Same as adult dose.

Children (under 2 years): Safety and efficacy have not been established.

For ophthalmic use only. Check the label for directions before use. Hold the dropper close to the eye without touching it. Gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside the lower eyelid. Wipe off extra liquid. Apply pressure on the corner of the eye (close to the nose) for about 1 minute immediately after instilling the drop.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

No drug interactions have been observed. However, patients who are sensitive to this product should be used with caution.

No food interactions known.

[CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR] There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women (Pregnancy Category C). Use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.

[CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR] It is not known whether bepotastine is excreted in breast milk. Caution is advised in nursing mothers.

Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients below the age of 2 have not been established. For patients 2 years and older, adult dosage applies.

No dose adjustment needed for elderly patients.

Systemic absorption with topical ophthalmic application is minimal, so no dosage adjustment is needed for renal or hepatic impairment.

If you use more drops than you should, rinse your eye with warm water. Do not put in any more drops until it is time for your next regular dose.

Store at 15-25°C. Protect from light. Use within 30 days after first opening. Close the bottle tightly immediately after use.
