Betacarotene + Vitamin C + Vitamin E is an antioxidant vitamin combination that supports the growth and repair of body tissue, bone, skin, teeth and hair. Each film-coated tablet contains: Beta carotene (Pro-Vitamin A) 6 mg, Vitamin C (Ascorbic acid) 200 mg, and Vitamin E (Alpha Tocopherol) 50 mg.
Beta carotene is converted to Vitamin A (Retinol) when required. Retinol plays important roles in retinal function, growth, tissue differentiation, and immunological response. It also has some anti-cancer activity. Vitamin C is the most powerful reducing agent present in living tissues, necessary for collagen formation, tissue repair, and defense against infection. Vitamin E plays a role in protecting against oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation, and helps protect the immune system.

Pharmacology
Beta carotene is converted to Vitamin A (Retinol) when required. Retinol has several biochemical functions including roles in the retina, growth, tissue differentiation, and immunological response. It also has some anti-cancer activity.
Vitamin C is the most powerful reducing agent known to be present in living tissues. Vitamin C deficiency produces scurvy. It plays a role as a cofactor in numerous biological processes including the conversion of proline to hydroxyproline, dopamine to noradrenaline. Vitamin C is important for the normal functioning of T-lymphocytes and leukocytes.
Vitamin E acts as a defense against oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation. In cell membranes, there is one molecule of tocopherol for every 1000 lipid molecules. Tocopherol neutralizes peroxide radicals and is regenerated by ascorbic acid or reduced glutathione.

Dosage
Adults: 1 tablet/capsule once daily.

Administration
Take 1 tablet daily with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole.
Missed dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Side effects
- Diarrhea may occasionally occur during beta carotene treatment
- Skin may assume a slightly yellow discoloration (reversible)
- Large doses of Vitamin C and Vitamin E may cause diarrhea and other gastrointestinal disturbances
- Toxic effects of Vitamin A (after beta carotene conversion) are normally reversible
- Chronic overdosage may lead to peeling and redness of skin, disturbed hair growth, loss of appetite, and sickness
- Large doses of Vitamin E may cause diarrhea, abdominal pain, and other gastrointestinal disturbances
Precautions & warnings
- Avoid hypervitaminosis
- Avoid use in early pregnancy
- Patients on anticoagulant therapy should not use ascorbic acid for prolonged periods
- Beta carotene may cause harm to heavy smokers and alcoholics (caution needed)
- Vitamin C should be given with caution to patients with hyperoxaluria
- Vitamin E should be used with caution in patients taking anticoagulant drugs
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to beta carotene, Vitamin C or Vitamin E
- Megadoses of Vitamin C are contraindicated for patients with hyperoxaluria
Drug interactions
- Neomycin and Bleomycin: Reduce retinol absorption
- Aminophylline, Erythromycin, Nafcillin, etc.: Incompatible with Vitamin C solution
- Paracetamol: Vitamin C increases the apparent half-life of paracetamol
- Iron: Vitamin C enhances iron absorption from the gastrointestinal tract
- Anticoagulants: Vitamin E may enhance anticoagulant activity

Best taken with food for better absorption.
Use in pregnancy

Overdose effects
Overdose may cause diarrhea, gastrointestinal disturbances, and Vitamin A toxicity. Consult a doctor if symptoms occur.
