Description

Ciprofloxacin + Hydrocortisone Acetate is a quinolone antibiotic and corticosteroid combination otic suspension. Ciprofloxacin works by killing bacteria by stopping the production of essential proteins needed by the bacteria to survive. Hydrocortisone Acetate is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation (redness, swelling, itching). This combination is indicated for the treatment of acute otitis externa due to susceptible strains of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Proteus mirabilis.

Pharmacology

Ciprofloxacin & Hydrocortisone is a quinolone antibiotic and corticosteroid combination. It works by killing bacteria by stopping the production of essential proteins needed by the bacteria to survive. It also reduces inflammation (redness, swelling, itching).

Mechanism of action

Ciprofloxacin kills bacteria by inhibiting protein synthesis; Hydrocortisone Acetate reduces inflammation and itching.

Dosage

Adult dose: After cleansing, 2-4 drops instilled three to four times a day and at night or as directed by the physician.

Paediatric dose (2 years and older): Same as adult dose: 2-4 drops three to four times a day and at night.

Administration

Shake well before use. Tilt head to one side, instill 2-4 drops into the affected ear and remain in position for a few minutes. Close the bottle tightly after use.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next application, skip the missed dose.

Precautions & warnings
  • As with other antibiotic preparations, use of this product may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms including fungi.
  • If the infection is not improved after one week of therapy, culture should be obtained to guide future treatment.
Contraindications
  • Discontinue at the first appearance of a skin rash or any other sign of hypersensitivity.

Store in a cool and dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children. Shake well before each use. Use within 30 days after first opening. Close bottle tightly after use.
