Description
This preparation is a mixture of antitussive, decongestant and antihistamine agent. Phenylephrine is a decongestant that shrinks blood vessels in the nasal passage. Triprolidine is a potent competitive histamine H1-receptor antagonist which may cause drowsiness.

Pharmacology
Dextromethorphan is a safe, effective, non-narcotic antitussive agent which has a central action on the cough centre in the medulla. Phenylephrine is a decongestant that shrinks blood vessels in the nasal passage. Triprolidine is a potent competitive histamine H1-receptor antagonist which may cause drowsiness.
Mechanism of action
Dextromethorphan acts on the cough centre to suppress cough; Phenylephrine constricts nasal blood vessels; Triprolidine blocks histamine receptors to relieve allergy symptoms.
Dosage
Adults: 1 teaspoonful 4 times a day.
Children (>12 years): 1 teaspoonful 4 times a day.
Children (6-12 years): ½ teaspoonful 4 times a day.
Administration
Take with or without food.
Missed dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose.
Side effects
Rare: Drowsiness, excitability (especially in children). Prostatic enlargement could be an important predisposing factor.
Precautions & warnings
May cause drowsiness; do not drive or operate machinery. Avoid alcohol or other centrally acting sedatives. Caution in hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, elevated intraocular pressure, prostatic enlargement. Do not use for persistent or chronic cough.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity; patients taking MAOIs or within 2 weeks of stopping.
