Description
Dextrose + Sodium Chloride is a sterile solution. Each 100 ml contains Dextrose Monohydrate (5.0 gm) and Sodium Chloride (0.9 gm). It is used for maintenance and replacement of fluid, electrolyte and carbohydrate in patients who are unable to take fluid and nutrients by mouth (e.g., persistent vomiting, during and after surgery, shock or accidents).

Pharmacology
Dextrose + Sodium Chloride is a sterile solution used for fluid and electrolyte replenishment and caloric supply. Each 100 ml contains Dextrose 5 gm and Sodium Chloride 0.9 gm, which is isotonic to body fluid.
Mechanism of action
Dextrose + Sodium Chloride provides water, electrolytes, and glucose to the body to replenish fluid deficits.
Dosage
Dosage depends on the clinical condition, age and body surface area of the patient. As directed by a physician.

Side effects
Common: Febrile response, infection at injection site, venous thrombosis/phlebitis, extravasation, hypervolemia.
Serious: Severe burning, pain, swelling around IV needle; warmth, redness, oozing, bleeding; fever, ongoing cough.
Precautions & warnings
Caution in congestive heart failure, peripheral/pulmonary edema, impaired renal function, pre-eclampsia. Monitor serum glucose in diabetic patients (insulin may be needed). Do not use if solution is cloudy, contains particles, or expired.
Contraindications
Known allergy to corn or corn products (solutions containing dextrose).

Use in pregnancy
