Econazole Nitrate 1% + Triamcinolone Acetonide 0.1 Topical

Econazole Nitrate 1% + Triamcinolone Acetonide 0.1% Topical is a combination of econazole nitrate (an antifungal that modifies fungal cell wall membrane permeability) and triamcinolone acetonide (a corticosteroid with glucocorticoid activity that suppresses polymorphonuclear leukocyte migration and reduces capillary permeability). Used for steroid-responsive inflammatory dermatoses, tinea pedis, tinea cruris, tinea corporis, pityriasis versicolor, cutaneous candidiasis and onychomycoses. Apply 2-3 times daily to affected areas for up to 14 days. Contraindicated in tuberculous lesions, viral skin diseases and hypersensitivity.

Econazole modifies the permeability of cell wall membrane in fungi; may interfere with RNA and protein synthesis, and lipid metabolism. Triamcinolone has mainly glucocorticoid activity. It suppresses the migration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes and reduces capillary permeability thereby decreasing inflammation.

Adult Dose (Topical): Apply 2-3 times daily to affected area and rub gently with finger. Continue applications for 14 days.

For external use only. Apply a thin layer to clean, dry skin and rub in gently. Wash hands after application. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule.

Common Side Effects:

• Transient local mild irritation
• Itching
• Redness
• Adrenal suppression (with prolonged use, especially in infants/children or with occlusive dressings)

• For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
• Discontinue if hypersensitivity occurs.
• Keep infected area clean and dry during treatment.
• Adrenal suppression may occur with long-term topical steroid therapy, especially in infants/children or with occlusive dressings.
• An infant's napkin may act as an occlusive dressing.

• Tuberculous lesions
• Viral skin diseases (herpes, vaccinia, varicella)
• True hypersensitivity to any ingredient

Econazole: Theoretical potential for compounds metabolized by CYP3A4/2C9, oral anticoagulants (warfarin & acenocoumarol).

Triamcinolone: Lowers plasma salicylate levels. Increased GI bleeding and ulceration risk with NSAIDs. Antagonizes blood glucose-lowering effects of antidiabetics. Increased hyperkalemia risk with amphotericin B, beta-blockers, potassium-depleting diuretics, theophylline. Increased clearance with ciclosporin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, barbiturate, rifampicin. Infections may develop with live vaccines.

No known food interactions.

Econazole does not cross placenta but Triamcinolone Acetonide does. Topical corticosteroids during pregnancy can cause fetal developmental abnormalities. Large amounts or prolonged use should not be used in pregnancy.

Negligible amount of econazole and some triamcinolone may be excreted in breast milk. Use with caution in lactating mothers.

Caution required in children. Prolonged use may cause adrenal suppression.

Limited information available regarding dose adjustment for elderly patients.

Renal impairment: Use with caution in kidney disease.

Hepatic impairment: Use with caution in liver disease.

For cutaneous use only. Corticosteroids can be absorbed to produce systemic effects. In case of accidental ingestion, treat symptomatically. If applied to eyes, wash with clean water.

Store below 30°C, away from light. Keep out of reach of children.
