Description
Introduction: Framycetin sulfate Dressing is an antibiotic dressing used for the prevention and treatment of wound infections. It is used for thermal (light burns or scalds), traumatic (lacerations, abrasions, bites, wounds, crash injuries) and miscellaneous (secondary infected skin conditions like eczema, dermatitis, herpes zoster) conditions.
How it works: Framycetin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic which is the major component of neomycin. Susceptible organisms include many gram-negative bacteria (but not Pseudomonas) and many strains of Staphylococcus.
Important Information: Apply a single layer on the lesion and cover with a suitable dressing. For wounds with profuse exudate, change the dressing once daily.

- Thermal: Light, and not too extensive, burns or scalds
- Traumatic: Lacerations, abrasions, bites, wounds, crash injuries
- Miscellaneous: Secondary infected skin conditions (e.g., eczema, dermatitis, herpes zoster)

Pharmacology
Framycetin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic which is the major component of neomycin. Susceptible organisms include many gram-negative bacteria (but not Pseudomonas) and many strains of Staphylococcus. It is used topically in the treatment of skin, eye and ear infections often in combination with steroids and other antimicrobials.
Mechanism of action
Framycetin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis, thereby stopping bacterial growth and reproduction, leading to control of infection.
Dosage
Adult Dose:
- Apply a single layer on the lesion and cover with a suitable dressing.
- For wounds with profuse exudate, change the dressing once daily.
Administration
For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area, then apply a single layer of the dressing and cover with a suitable dressing.
Missed dose
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular schedule.

- Where organisms are known to be resistant to framycetin
Drug interactions
