Description
Hydrocortisone 1% + Miconazole Nitrate 2% Topical is a combination medicine used in the treatment of eczema and dermatitis. Hydrocortisone is a steroid that works by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers that cause inflammation (redness and swelling) and allergies. Miconazole is an antifungal medication that kills fungi by destroying the fungal cell membrane. This combination kills microorganisms that cause infection and reduces inflammation.

Pharmacology
Miconazole is an imidazole antifungal agent that interferes with ergosterol synthesis and alters the permeability of the cell membrane of sensitive fungi, causing fungal death. Hydrocortisone is a naturally occurring glucocorticoid that is absorbed into skin cells and prevents the release of inflammatory chemicals.
Mechanism of action
Hydrocortisone reduces inflammation and itching; Miconazole kills fungi by destroying the fungal cell membrane.
Dosage
Adult and Child Dose (Topical):
- Apply to the affected area as a thin film 2-4 times daily (1-2 weeks)
- Continue treatment at least one week after all signs and symptoms disappear
- Rub well with finger until cream fully vanishes on the skin
Administration
For external use only; use in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor; check the label for directions; clean and dry the affected area; wash hands after applying (unless hands are the affected area).
Missed dose
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as possible; if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose.
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Application site reactions (burning, irritation, itching and redness)
Rare: Local sensitivity; long-term use may decrease production of natural hormones by adrenal gland

Precautions:
- To be dispensed only on the prescription of a registered physician
- Keep out of reach of children
- Take care or consult with a physician in case of use in children and elderly people for long-term use
- Inform doctor if condition does not improve after 2-4 weeks
- Do not use more than needed (may increase side effects)
