Description
Ispaghula Husk + Mebeverine Hydrochloride is specially designed for IBS. Ispaghula Husk contains up to 70% soluble and 30% insoluble fibers capable of absorbing up to 40 times of water of its own weight. It absorbs water in the bowel, increases stool bulk and regulates bowel movement. Mebeverine is an antispasmodic drug that relieves spasms and cramps in the gut without affecting normal gut motility.

Pharmacology
Ispaghula Husk contains up to 70% soluble and 30% insoluble fibers capable of absorbing up to 40 times of water of its own weight. It absorbs water in the bowel, increases stool bulk and regulates bowel movement. Mebeverine is an antispasmodic drug that relieves spasms and cramps in the gut without affecting normal gut motility.
Mechanism of action
Ispaghula Husk increases stool bulk; Mebeverine relieves gut spasms.
Dosage
Adult Dose (Oral):
- One sachet in the morning and one in the evening (half an hour before a meal with one glass of water)
- An additional sachet may be taken before the midday meal if necessary
Child Dose (>12 years):
- One sachet in the morning and one in the evening (half an hour before a meal with one glass of water)
- An additional sachet may be taken before the midday meal if necessary

Administration
For oral use; stir the contents of a sachet into a glass of cold water (approximately 150ml) and drink immediately; take half an hour before a meal.
Missed dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible; if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to regular schedule; do not double the dose.
Side effects
Side Effects:
- Flatulence or bloating
- Allergic skin reaction including skin rash with itching
- Anaphylaxis (rare)
- Mild abdominal discomfort (first few days)
Precautions & warnings
Precautions:
- To be taken into consideration by patients on a controlled sodium diet
- To be taken into consideration by patients with reduced kidney function or patients on a controlled potassium diet
- Acute porphyria, Elderly, Pregnancy
- Do not take without water
- Each dose should be stirred into a glass of water before taking
Contraindications
Contraindications:
- Allergic to any of the ingredients
- Intestinal obstruction or faecal impaction
- Colonic atony
- Phenylketonuria
Drug interactions
Drug Interactions:
- Ispaghula Husk may delay gastric emptying time and reduce absorption of Calcium, Iron and Zinc
- Other agents should be taken one hour before or a few hours after taking Ispaghula Husk

Use in pregnancy
Use in Pregnancy: Ispaghula Husk is not absorbed into bloodstream and does not pass into breast milk, but Mebeverine Hydrochloride is absorbed and passes through breast milk; should not be used during pregnancy unless considered essential by physician.
Use in lactation
Use in Lactation: Ispaghula Husk does not pass into breast milk, but Mebeverine Hydrochloride passes through breast milk; caution required.
Pediatric use
Safety and efficacy not established in children under 12 years.
Geriatric use
Caution in elderly patients.
Renal / hepatic impairment
Renal Impairment: Caution in patients with reduced kidney function; consult your doctor.

Overdose effects
