Description
Miconazole Nitrate is an imidazole antifungal that inhibits ergosterol synthesis damaging the fungal cell wall membrane and increasing its permeability. It is effective against dermatophytes and yeasts.

Pharmacology
Miconazole inhibits a demethylation step in ergosterol biosynthesis. Ergosterol is the main sterol in fungi. Disruption in ergosterol production creates holes in the fungal cell membrane allowing essential constituents to leak out.
Mechanism of action
Prevents fungal growth by destroying the fungal cell wall.
Dosage
Adult Dose:
- Tinea cruris corporis & cutaneous candidiasis: BID for 2 weeks
- Tinea versicolor: Once daily for 2 weeks
- Tinea pedis: BID for 4 weeks
Child Dose (≥2 years): BID for up to 1 month
Administration
- For external use only
- Apply sufficient amount to affected area
- Avoid contact with eyes
- Continue for prescribed duration even after symptoms resolve
