Pharmacology
Mifepristone binds to progesterone receptor blocking progesterone action. Misoprostol acts through prostaglandin receptors causing uterine contractions.
Mechanism of action
Blocks progesterone and causes uterine contractions to terminate pregnancy.
Dosage
Adult Dose:
- Day 1: Mifepristone 200 mg (1 tablet) single oral dose
- Day 2 (24-48 hours later): Misoprostol 800 mcg (4 tablets) buccally or sublingually
- Day 10-14: Follow-up visit
Administration
- Take under physician supervision
- Swallow tablet whole
- Place Misoprostol between cheek and gum or under tongue
- Wait for 30 minutes
