Pemirolast Potassium 0.1% Eye Prep is used for the prevention of itching of the eye due to allergic conjunctivitis. It is a mast cell stabilizer that inhibits the Type I immediate hypersensitivity reaction.
Description
Pemirolast is a mast cell stabilizer that inhibits the in vivo Type I immediate hypersensitivity reaction. It inhibits chemotaxis of eosinophils into the ocular tissue and blocks the release of mediators. It also prevents calcium influx into mast cells following antigen stimulation and binds to the histamine H1 receptor.

Pharmacology
Pemirolast stabilizes mast cells and binds to the histamine H1 receptor. It inhibits antigen-stimulated calcium ion influx into mast cells, inhibits eosinophil chemotaxis into ocular tissue, and prevents inflammatory mediator release.
Mechanism of action
Stabilizes mast cells and blocks histamine receptors to prevent allergic reactions.
Dosage
Adult Dose (Ophthalmic):
- 0.1% ophthalmic solution: Instill 1-2 drops into the affected eye(s) 4 times daily
Pediatric Dose (Ophthalmic):
- >3 years: 0.1% ophthalmic solution: Instill 1-2 drops into the affected eye(s) 4 times daily
Administration
- Instill 1-2 drops into the affected eye(s) 4 times daily
- Remove contact lenses before administration; reinsert at least 10 minutes after application
- Keep bottle tightly closed when not in use
- Do not touch the eyelids or surrounding areas with the dropper tip (to prevent contamination)
Missed dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember; skip if it's almost time for next dose; do not double the dose.
