Tetanus + Diphtheria Vaccine (Adsorbed, with Acellular Pertussis) is used for active booster immunization against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis in persons 10 through 64 years of age.
Description
This vaccine is prepared from diphtheria formol toxoid, tetanus formol toxoid, and acellular pertussis vaccine (B. pertussis 4 IU/0.5 mL). It stimulates antibody production against toxoids, providing active immunity against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis.

Pharmacology
Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis vaccine contains diphtheria toxoid, tetanus toxoid, and acellular pertussis antigens. It stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies against these toxoids, neutralizing toxins and providing protection against infection.
Mechanism of action
Provides active immunity by stimulating antibody production against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis.
Dosage
Adult and Pediatric Dose (IM/SC):
- Single dose: 0.5 mL (ages 10-64)
- Primary immunization (under 5 years): 3 doses of 0.5 mL (minimum 4-week intervals)
Administration
- IM or deep SC injection
- Do not administer IV
- Do not mix with other vaccines in the same syringe

Side effects
Common Side Effects (Ages 11-17):
- Injection site pain (77.8%), swelling (20.9%), erythema (20.8%)
- Headache (43.7%), body ache (30.4%), tiredness (15.1%)
Adults (18-64):
- Pain (65.7%), swelling (21.0%), erythema (24.7%)
- Headache (33.9%), body ache (21.9%)
Precautions & warnings
- Latex allergy (tip caps of prefilled syringes may contain natural rubber latex)
- History of Guillain-Barré syndrome (within 6 weeks of prior tetanus-containing vaccine) – caution
- Defer in progressive or unstable neurologic conditions
- History of Arthus-type hypersensitivity reaction – wait 10 years
Contraindications
- Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to any component
- Encephalopathy within 7 days of a previous pertussis-containing vaccine
Drug interactions
- Immunosuppressive therapy: Reduced immune response
- With trivalent influenza vaccine: Lower pertactin antibody response
Food interactions
Alcohol consumption is not relevant (vaccine).
