Pharmacology

Vitamin A plays an essential role in the function of retina and is essential for growth and differentiation of epithelial tissue. Vitamin B plays a role in the synthesis and maintenance of coenzyme A. Vitamin C is necessary for collagen formation and tissue repair. Vitamin D is supplemented for prevention and cure of nutritional and metabolic rickets. Vitamin E is an antioxidant which preserves essential cellular constituents.

Mechanism of action

Fulfills deficiencies of Vitamins A, B-complex, C, D and E, supporting normal body function.

Dosage

Adult Dose (IV):

  • 1 vial/day

Child Dose (11 years and above) (IV):

  • 1 vial/day
Administration
  • Reconstitute by adding 5ml of sterile Water for injection or 0.9% Sodium Chloride or 5% Glucose injection
  • Administer by slow Intravenous injection (at least over 10 minutes) or further diluted for intravenous infusion
  • To minimize vitamin losses in parenteral nutrition admixtures, add the vitamins immediately prior to administration and complete administration within 24 hours

Side effects

Common Side Effects:

  • Anaphylactic reactions have been reported following large intravenous doses of Thiamine
  • Urticaria and rash
  • Very rare reports of anaphylactic reactions following IV injection/infusion over 1-4 minutes
Precautions & warnings
  • Anaphylactic reactions may occur in allergic subjects susceptible to Thiamine (Vitamin B1) and nicotinamide components
  • Mild allergic reactions (sneezing, mild asthma) are warning signs
  • Due to glychocolic acid content, repeated and prolonged administration in patients with jaundice of hepatic origin or severe biochemical evidence of cholestasis requires careful monitoring of liver function
  • In impaired kidney function, fat-soluble vitamin levels should be carefully monitored
Contraindications
  • Pre-existing hypervitaminosis
  • Known hypersensitivity to any of the active ingredients
  • Pre-existing intolerance to thiamine
  • Impaired hepatic function
  • Hyperparathyroidism (due to hypercalcaemic complications)
