Pharmacology

Vitamin B1 (Thiamine), B6 (Pyridoxine) & B12 (Cyanocobalamin). These vitamins play essential role as co-enzyme for the metabolism of nervous system. Thus this combination normalizes the nerve cell metabolism.

Mechanism of action

Vitamins B1, B6, and B12 support normal nervous system function and red blood cell production.

Dosage

Adult Dose (Oral):

  • 1-2 tablets three times daily

Adult Dose (IM):

  • In severe cases: 1 injection daily until the acute symptoms subside
  • For milder cases: 2 or 3 injections should be administered weekly
Administration
  • Take as directed by a physician
  • Swallow tablets whole
  • Ampoules are preferably injected intramuscularly
Missed dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember; if almost time for next dose, skip it; do not double the dose.

Side effects

Common Side Effects:

  • Generally well tolerated
  • However, a few allergic reactions may be seen
Precautions & warnings
  • Cyanocobalamin should not be given before a diagnosis has been fully established because of the possibility of masking symptoms of subacute degeneration of the spinal cord
  • Cyanocobalamin is not a suitable form of Vitamin B12 for the treatment of optic neuropathies associated with raised plasma concentrations of cyanocobalamin
Contraindications
  • Should not be used in the patients on Levodopa therapy
  • Hypersensitivity to any of the active ingredients

Use in pregnancy

Use in Pregnancy: Oral tablet form is recommended; but due to the presence of benzyl alcohol, injection is not recommended during pregnancy.
