Indications
Adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycaemic control in adults with type-2 diabetes mellitus.
Pharmacology
Inhibits DPP-4 enzyme, slowing incretin hormone degradation, enhancing insulin secretion and reducing glucagon levels.
Dosage
25 mg once daily for normal or mild renal impairment; dose adjustments required for moderate to severe renal impairment.
Side effects
Nasopharyngitis, headache, upper respiratory tract infection.
Use in pregnancy
Pregnancy Category B. Use only if clearly needed.
Pregnancy Category: B — always consult a doctor before taking during pregnancy.
Precautions & warnings
Acute pancreatitis, hypersensitivity reactions, hepatic effects.
Overdose effects
Supportive therapy and clinical monitoring as dictated by clinical status.
