Broad-spectrum benzimidazole anthelmintic for single and mixed intestinal and tissue worm infestations.
Indications
Indicated in infestations of Hookworm, Roundworm, Threadworm, Whipworm, Strongyloides, Tapeworm, Opisthorchis, Giardiasis, and Hydatid disease.
Dosage
Adults & Children >2 years: 400 mg as a single dose for common worms. For strongyloidiasis or taeniasis: 400 mg daily for 3 consecutive days. Children 1-2 years: 200 mg single dose. Hydatid disease (>60 kg): 400 mg twice daily for 28 days.
Side effects
Gastrointestinal discomfort, headache, dizziness, elevated liver enzymes, reversible alopecia, and rarely blood disorders (leukopenia, pancytopenia).
Precautions & warnings
Perform blood counts and liver function tests before and during treatment cycles in Hydatid disease. Exclude pregnancy prior to initiating therapy.
