Diabasic Sodium Phosphate + Monobasic Sodium Phosphate is a saline laxative and bowel cleansing solution used for constipation and colon cleansing.
Indications
- Relief of occasional constipation
- Bowel cleansing (before surgery, x-ray, or endoscopic examination)
- Preparation for colonoscopy
Dosage
Adult (Oral Tablets): Evening before colonoscopy: 4 tablets with 8 oz clear liquid every 15 min (total 20 tablets); Day of procedure: 4 tablets with 8 oz clear liquid every 15 min (total 12 tablets).
Adult (Rectal Enema): 1 bottle PR; not to exceed 1 administration/24 hr.
Children (2-4 years): Half bottle of pediatric enema (~30 mL) PR.
Children (5-11 years): 1 bottle of pediatric enema (59 mL) PR.
Children (≥12 years): Same as adults.
Side effects
Common: Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, abdominal distension, diarrhea, gastrointestinal pain.
Serious: Dehydration, hyperphosphatemia, hypocalcemia, hypokalemia, hypernatremia, metabolic acidosis, hypersensitivity, pruritus.
Precautions & warnings
Use with caution in patients with renal impairment, cirrhosis, cardiac failure, or with edema-causing medications. Should not be used with sodium retaining medications. Caution in patients receiving corticosteroids or corticotropin. Caution during lactation.
