Oral antiviral nucleoside analog indicated for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B in adults.
Indications
Treatment of chronic hepatitis B in adults with evidence of active viral replication and elevated serum aminotransferases (ALT or AST) or histologically active disease.
Dosage
Adults (normal renal function): 10 mg once daily. Renal Impairment: CrCl 20-49 mL/min: 10 mg every 48 hours; CrCl 10-19 mL/min: 10 mg every 72 hours; Hemodialysis: 10 mg every 7 days post-dialysis.
Side effects
Common: Asthenia, headache, abdominal pain, nausea. Serious: Nephrotoxicity, severe acute exacerbation of hepatitis B upon discontinuation, lactic acidosis, and hepatomegaly with steatosis.
Precautions & warnings
Monitor renal function closely in at-risk patients and adjust dose. Perform periodic liver function monitoring post-discontinuation.
